MDWES is noticing that more of our clients acquiring brownfield sites which range form commercial/industrial units, petrol stations, factories, foundries, reclaimed land to landfills. These sites can have a detrimental effect on the environment if left unattended, which can results in long term environmental damage. Under the Contaminated Sites Act, sites of this nature require the landholder to consider the “proposed”, “current” and “historic land” use in an investigation. This is particularly prevalent in a change of use or sale of land.

Ground Gas sampling of brown field sites or site which indicate that gas maybe emitted requires an in-depth investigation as to the potential environmental and human health risks. MDWES has assisted on several sites were ground gas has been prevalent and was the first environmental company in WA to gain approval for a developer to build on an old landfill Site. Through are experience in ground gas assessments MDWES can provide detailed ground gas sampling and monitoring program to ascertain if ground gas protection measures would be required. This is achieved through robust field (well and surface) and laboratory (canister) assessment which are compliant with current government standards. Ground Gas monitoring should be considered as part of the an environmental/contaminated sites assessment.

Asbestos is an issue within WA and Australia due to its extensive use in the 60s, 70s and 80s as the wonder material for use in all manner or commercial and industrial products.
